F–k Your Blog
I’ll just start off by saying yes this is a blog hating on blogs and that it’s probably more then a little hypocritical, but oh well. With that being said here are 5 of my biggest complaints about blogs/bloggers.
I Don’t Care What You Think/Did
Just because you have a computer and registered an account with blogspot, doesn’t mean that people care about what you think or what you did today. From music to fashion to politics if your opinion really mattered or you really knew what was best for the world you wouldn’t be online all day reposting information that’s already available on sites that get way more traffic than yours.
Filesharing
No you are not helping out artists by giving away their music. Yes, you may have one or two new people listen to an artist, but odds are they are never going to actually pay for the music or go see the artist perform. It doesn’t matter if the album has no distribution and is only available on a tour or if a major label is pushing it. If you really want to help post your top 1 or 2 tracks off the album and link people to the artists MySpace page or a place to BUY the album. Bottom line is you really have no idea what the artist is working on and that link you just posted on your site might of cost the artist you love thousands of dollars and a distribution and/or record deal.
The Armchair A&R
If you really know what’s best for musicians, you’d be working in the industry getting paid to voice your opinion. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been listening to music all your life, if you’ve never been involved in the entire process of making and releasing music (from writing to recording to getting signed to getting distribution to marketing to touring) you really don’t know what your talking about. The majority of the artists you are saying are handling their business wrong are actually doing everything they can afford to do.
Reviewers
Just because you bootlegged an album, doesn’t mean people care what you think of it. It also doesn’t it mean that you deserve a free copy of the album and doesn’t give you the right to bootleg it. Even if you have a little following, it doesn’t mean that you are entitled to getting anything early.
Give Credit Where Credit Is Due
There are few blogs that actually post new information that hasn’t been online before and odds are the your blog isn’t one of them. This doesn’t mean give credit to the biggest site/blog you saw the information on, this means give credit to site/blog that actually initially posted the information.
There you have it, 5 of my biggest complaints about blogs. Later down the road I will be going a little more in depth about some of these. Now that I’ve said what I had to, what are your thoughts?
